CoD:WaW - 4th of July Double XP
Jun 29, 2009 - 12:38 PM - by Angel
To celebrate Independence Day here in the US (aka July 4th) we have decided to run Double-XP next weekend. It will begin July 3rd @ 10:00AM PST, and end July 6th @ 10:00AM PST. This will be for the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, and PC and of course this Double-XP is available worldwide!

Also taking place July 3rd at 10:00AM PST will be a playlist update, where we will be incorporating the Map Pack 2 maps into the main Core and Hardcore rotations; don’t worry, the Map Pack playlist will remain open for those of you looking to get your fix of the Map Pack 2 maps exclusively.

Also recall this weekend we have our first ever Weekend Warrior Challenge for which US-based Xbox 360 players can participate. Registration has now closed, but not to worry – we’ll be running more of these in the future. If you have signed up already, however, be sure to check here for updated rules / time slots.

The PS3 Weekend Warrior challenge takes place next weekend – check for a new Intel piece next week for registration information.

Hope to see you online both weekends

Modern Warfare 2 Loses Brand Awareness Without 'Call of Duty'
Jun 28, 2009 - 3:58 PM - by Angel
Activision and Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2 not only dropped the the Call of Duty moniker, but a sizable chunk of brand recognition, tracking firm OTX tells Gamasutra.

Consumer awareness levels for the highly-anticipated military mega-sequel dropped 20 percentage points since Activision revealed the official name of the game would ditch the Call of Duty brand, according to Nick Williams, who runs the GamePlan Insights division for OTX.

"Up until the beginning of May, OTX had been tracking the title as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. More specifically, we asked a representative group of gamers in the U.S. whether or not they had heard of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. At that time, approximately 40 percent of all gamers in the U.S. claimed that they had heard of this title."

He continued, "However, once it became clear that Activision was positioning the title as Modern Warfare 2, OTX removed 'Call of Duty' from the consumer survey, and the awareness levels dropped to 20 percent. In other words, the Call of Duty brand association essentially doubles the awareness for the game. That is quite a remarkable statistic."

Bash Cast - CoD TV
Jun 27, 2009 - 4:35 PM - by JuDGe
BASHandSLASH has a new bashcast up this week. It has been a little while since Jock Yitch's last cast, but Bash 109 is definitely a topic that Jock has been talking about for quite some time, CoD TV. For those who know nothing of CoD TV, this bashcast would be a good place to start as it was announced recently here that support for CoD TV will be in the upcoming 1.5 patch for CoD:WaW. Read a bit below about the bashcast:

Euphoria.

Activision has finally recognized PC gamer requests that CoD TV is a “must have” requirement for the continued viability of the Call of Duty franchise into the future.

Do they really see it that way? Well…that’s my optimistic take on it. For all I know, Treyarch and Activision may not look upon this modification in the dramatic light I do. But right now, I don’t care. The CoDTV code-hook appears to be in the upcoming v1.5 revision of CoD:WW and that’s all that matters.

On this edition of BASH (…yes, we’re doing these casts somewhat infrequently now), I interviewed Garetjax - the heart and the brains behind CoD TV - literally minutes after CoDTV support was announced.

Listen to the cast to find out his immediate reactions to what should be a dramatic turn for CoD competitive gaming. It’s a new day in CoD.
Click here to listen to the bashcast. Subscribe to these bashcasts, or at least continue to listen to them each week if you would really like to start knowing more about CoD and its community.

Battlefield 1943 Match System Explained
Jun 25, 2009 - 12:46 PM - by Angel
Remembered this detail that might help; There is one person the creates the Lobby and sets the Server to the map, once he invites one person (i.e. other clan leader if it is a clan match) and he invites people he knows that the lobby creator might not. The creator of the Lobby then manages the team and sorts who is on what team. So if friends want to muck about have your friends invite their friends. Bit tired today, so let me know if that makes any sense...
You can check out the original source here. There's also a message later in the same thread from DICE member Sibben further explaining the system:

Battlefield 1943 is a server/client game and not peer-to-peer. That means we set up the servers and pay for them. It's just not possible for us to have an unlimited amount of servers running which means we need to find some balance. So if two chaps start a game just to LOL around that means there is one sever less available for a full set of people who wants to play a proper game. This is the reason we set a 8 vs 8 limit as we still want to provide clans with a possibility to set up their own games.

For a fifteen dollar downloadable game I think that's a pretty fair deal. So does Gordon, and my guess is that that's why he gets a little peeved off when people just demand the moon. I know because it ticks me off a bit too. We're really trying to give you a good game at a decent price point and there are limitations to what we can do.

US Intervention - War Breaks Out in Three New Locations
Jun 25, 2009 - 12:45 PM - by Angel
After about a month of no updates, it’s time for a new one. We have been working hard over the past few weeks. In fact, there have been made so many changes that we decided that the name of the new release now officially is 0.2 instead of 0.18! The problem with bugfixes is, that you can not really show them with screenshots. So what should we show you? Well, we could show you some screenshots of the upcoming (and work in progress) maps for 0.2.

First off, we have taken an existing map and converted it for use in USI. It was made by imtheheadhunter from BFSP and now has found its way to USI, where [EoD]Junglist has made it compatible and changed a few details.
